M.V. Slipenchuk and METROPOL Delegation Visit Legendary Varyag Cruiser Memorial in Scotland
The village of Lendalfoot, Scotland, where the majestic memorial
to the Russian Varyag Cruiser is situated, was visited today by a
Russian delegation headed by M.V. Slipenchuk, Head of METROPOL
Group of Companies, President of Charity Foundation for Navy
Support “Varyag Cruiser”. The delegates saw the memorial complex,
which was opened by the “Varyag Cruiser” Foundation and METROPOL
Group of Companies on 8 September 2007. The complex is installed in
close vicinity to the place where the heroic Russian cruiser found
its final resting place. The memorial consists of a bronze
monument, a memorial tablet and an admiralty anchor with a chain.
Wreaths were laid under the monument. It is symbolic that the visit
of the delegation and President of the Varyag Cruiser Foundation
was timed to the fifth anniversary of the opening of the memorial
tablet in Firth of Clyde. M.V. Slipenchuk noted that the main
jubilee events are planned for the next year, the 5th anniversary
of the opening of the entire memorial complex in Lendalfoot.
