The METROPOL Group of Companies co-organized the presentation of tourist potential of the Republic of Buryatia in France
Mikhail Slipenchuk, a deputy of the State Duma, took part in the
presentation of tourist potential of the Republic of Buryatia in
France on May 24, 2012. The presentation was held in Paris in
the residence of the Russian Ambassador under the auspices of
French-Russian Dialog Association and with the support of Russian
embassy and trade mission in France. Among the organizers of
the event were Russian railways OJSC and the METROPOL Group of
Companies. The event hosted the representatives of tourist business
in France, Russia and several European countries, as well as
leaders of the diplomatic and social circles.
The guests were greeted by A.K. Orlov, the Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in
France,V.V.Bushuev, Head of the administration of the president of
Russian railways OJSC, V.V.Nagovitsyn, Head of the Republic of
Buryatia, and M.V.Slipenchuk, a deputy of the State Duma. In his
speech A.K.Orlov stated that the main purpose of this event was "to
arise in their French friends interest and desire to visit
the Lake Baikal, Buryatia, and to see one of the jewels of
Russia. To do this, the creation of appropriate
infrastructure on the Lake Baikal is required. If all conditions
are met, the flow of tourists will increase significantly”.
V.V.Bushuev, Head of the administration of the president of Russian
railways OJSC, welcomed the participants on behalf of the President
of Russian railways OJSC, co-president of French-Russian Dialog
association Vladimir Yakunin, and wished a successful
presentation. He also added that the Lake Baikal was a truly
sacred ground.
V.V.Nagovitsyn, Head of the Republic of Buryatia, in the course
of representing the Republic, spoke in detail about its history and
its economic achievements: "The legendary BAM, Transsiberian
railroad, federal highways - all this makes Buryatia a transport
and communication bridge between Russia, Mongolia, China and
Vietnam. Today Buryatia attracts tourists from all over the
world. And we expect to increase the number of tourists
up to 2 million people a year by 2014".
In his address to the participants of the presentation
M.V.Slipenchuk, a deputy of the State Duma said: "I am
honored to be here today. Such events are the evidence of
fruitful and successful work of the French-Russian dialogue".
He also noted that nowadays the state gave priority to the
development of tourism clusters, especially at the Lake Baikal and
in the Republic of Buryatia."The economy of the country is actively
developing. Buryatia is not only rich in minerals, it is rich in
its people". In conclusion, M.V.Slipenchuk reported that the
presentation was a logical continuation of work on promoting the
image of the Republic of Buryatia in France and the promotion of
international tourism in Baikal region. This February a
presentation of the Baikal Region took place in the framework of
Expolangues Salon in Paris, and this April an international
conference "Baikal - the world treasure" was hosted in the Paris
headquarters of UNESCO.
During the presentation the guests also had an opportunity to
get acquainted with the exhibition "The Magical World of the Lake
Baikal." Unique photos of the stands showed the most exciting
moments of a 3-year-long international research expedition "Worlds"
of the Baikal"(2008-2010). In the course of the opening ceremony
M.V.Slipenchuk noted that cultural activities contributed to the
rapprochement between the two countries. He also expressed
gratitude to the Russian Ambassador in France, and recalled that
last year the exhibition was hosted by the Museum of Oceanography
in Monaco, and a month ago, in April 2012, by UNESCO headquarters
in Paris.
