Mir-1 and Mir-2 Deep Submergence Vessels are Displayed at the 6th Baikal International Economic Forum Exposition at the Initiative of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal
At the initiative of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal,
Mir-1 and Mir-2 deep submergence vessels are displayed at the
exposition of the 6th Baikal International Economic Forum (BEF) in
front of the main official event pavilion. The Forum’s Russian and
foreign participants have an opportunity to inspect the legendary
submersibles, which have been furrowing the waters of Lake Baikal
in the “Mirs in Baikal” Scientific Research Expedition during the
last three years.
A presentation of the “Mirs in Baikal” expedition project was made
on the BEF official opening day by Chairman of the Federation
Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation S.M.
Mironov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for
Protection of Lake Baikal M.V. Slipenchuk, Governor of
Irkutsk Region D.F. Mezentsev, and Chairman of the Fund’s Technical
Council, Head of Laboratory of Shirshov Oceanology Institute of the
Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Russia A.M. Sagalevich, who
answered the questions from journalists on the completed research
dives.
The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal has scheduled for September
8, 2010 a press briefing on the results of the “Mirs in Baikal”
International Scientific Research Expedition to be held on the
square near the Mirs exposition. The list of speakers includes
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for Protection of
Lake Baikal, Head of METROPOL Group M.V. Slipenchuk, First Deputy
Chairman of the Government of Irkutsk Region V.I. Pashkov, Chairman
of the Fund’s Technical Council, Head of Laboratory of Shirshov
Oceanology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences Hero of
Russia A.M. Sagalevich, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy
of Sciences, Director of the Baikal Institute for Nature Management
of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences А.К.
Tulokhonov, and Director of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal
B.D. Tsyrenov (the briefing’s moderator).
