IFC METROPOL has helped to carry out major renovations of the premises of the Department of Environmental Management of the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University
The opening ceremony of renovated premises of the Department of
Environmental Management of the MSU Faculty of Geography was held
on September 21, 2010. The symbolic red ribbon was cut by Dean of
the Faculty of Geography, Academician of the Russian Academy of
Sciences, Professor N.S. Kasimov, Head of the Department of
Environmental Management, Corresponding Member of the Russian
Academy of Sciences, Professor A.P. Kapitza, and Head of METROPOL
Group of Companies M.V. Slipenchuk.
The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) was founded at
the MSU Faculty of Geography in 1987. From the beginning to the
present day the department has been headed by its founder, Honored
Scientist, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Geography of Moscow State
University, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Andrey Petrovich Kapitsa. Alumni of the Department – geographers,
environmentalists, experts in environmental management,
environmental monitoring and protection of the environment – work
in scientific, academic and applied fields.
The DEM premises are located on the 17th floor of the
University’s Main Building built in 1953. They had been in need of
repair for a long time; however, a renovation was not possible due
to modest state funding. The problem was resolved thanks to the
initiative of Head of METROPOL Group of Companies Mikhail
Slipenchuk, an alumnus of the faculty, A.P. Kapitsa’s former
postgraduate student, Candidate of Geographic Sciences.
The renovation was carried out by IFC METROPOL workforce in
short time without interrupting the student’s educational process.
Renovation works were implemented under the supervision of faculty
staff members: Associate Professor D.D. Badyukova and Senior
Scientific Officer A.A. Potapov. Renovated rooms have gained
additional functionality and become more comfortable for work
without losing their main traditional elements (the general layout,
drawings, a large conference table, and some other old pieces of
furniture).
At the informal meeting following the opening ceremony, staff
members and students expressed gratitude to Mikhail Slipenchuk and
repair workers. Addressing the audience, Mr Slipenchuk said that
the renovation project was his way to express gratitude to Moscow
State University, the Faculty of Geography, the Department of
Environmental Management, and his scientific supervisor Professor
Andrey Petrovich Kapitsa. As a token of gratitude Professor E.I.
Golubeva awarded the alumnus and sponsor Mikhail Slipenchuk a PhD
badge.
