Head of METROPOL Group M. Slipenchuk participated in the III International conference “Priorities and peculiarities of development of the Baikal region” held on July 31 – August 3, 2008 in Ulan-Ude (Republic of Buryatia)
The III International conference “Priorities and peculiarities
of development of the Baikal region” devoted to the International
year of Planet Earth and the 85th anniversary of the Republic of
Buryatia took place on July 31- August 3, 2008 in Ulan-Ude
(Republic of Buryatia).
The conference was organized by the Government of the Republic of
Buryatia, the METROPOL Group, the MBC Corporation, the Fund for
protection of Lake Baikal, The Baikal Institute of Nature
Management of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of
Sciences, and the Russian Fund for Fundamental Research.
Over 200 people participated in the conference, including
representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Federation
Council and the State Duma, the Russian Fund for Fundamental
Research, federal ministries, the government of the republic of
Buryatia, Irkutsk and Transbaikalia regional administrations,
several ministries and academic establishments of Mongolia, heads
of industrial enterprises and companies, public ecological
associations, as well as scientists and experts from Russia, China,
Mongolia, the United States, Sweden, Germany, England, Monaco and
other countries.
The first plenary session of the conference was devoted to the
Strategy for the development of economic potential of the Baikal
region and sustainable development factors. President and
government chairman of the Republic of Buryatia V. Nagovitsyn
delivered a report on the Priorities of social and economic
development of the Republic of Buryatia for 2008-2010 and up to
2017. First Deputy Irkutsk regional Governor S. Sokol
reported on Prospects for the development of Irkutsk region and
inter-regional cooperation in the Baikal area. Head of METROPOL
Group and President of MBC Corporation and President of the
Guardianship Council of the Fund for protection of Lake Baikal M.
Slipenchuk addressed conference participants with a report on
Private-state equity in the implementation of economic projects in
Transbaikalia: problems and prospects. Director of the Baikal
Institute of Nature Management at the Siberian branch of the
Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of the Russian
Academy of Sciences A. Tulokhonov shared his view on the Strategy
for the development of Baikal region in the context of Russian
interests.
Reports at the conference were also delivered by State Duma member
A. Chilingarov, Chairlady of the State Duma committee for nature
management and ecology N. Komarova, Director of the Institute
of Oceanology at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician R.
Nigmatulin, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Siberian branch
of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician V. Fomin, and
others.
Upon the completion of the plenary session M. Slipenchuk
participated in the press conference devoted to the International
scientific research expedition “Mir” on the Baikal” and the III
International conference “Priorities and peculiarities of
development of the Baikal region”. The press conference intended
for representatives of federal and local media was also attended by
V. Nagovitsyn, A. Chilingarov, N. Komarova, A. Sagalevich, R.
Nigmatulin, and V. Fomin.
